This can be fun for a little while, but it is also very disorienting. I was sorely disappointed.įor starters, the game is dark, very dark when you are inside. After seeing the previews, I was extremely excited that this may be what I was hoping for with Doom 3. I was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with this game. Very disappointing if you are a quake fan I haven't played multiplayer, so I can't comment on that aspect. it's just a bit tedious at times.īut that's about all. Now, what was Quake4 lacking? Well, all I can think of is that it was a bit too linear and predictable. Huh? What is that compartment doing there to begin with? And why would there be a person-turned-zombie in there? A silly attempt at scariness that turns out to be more like horror-schlock. In Doom3, every time you passed through a corridor, somehow a hidden compartment containing a zombie would show up and attack you from behind. Lastly, your enemies show up from believable places. Remember - shadows of what you *think* you see are far scarier than complete darkness. Doom3 was far too dark, especially without the gun-mounted flashlight.

Second, everything is dim and shadowy, but mercifully *not* so dark. What a crazy technological advancement! No reason that this should not have been in the original Doom3. The bonus is that Quake4 has all of the things that kept Doom3 from being stellar.įirst, your flashlight is actually attached to your main gun. Of course, there are subquests (for lack of a better word, since play is 100% linear), but the main story is still well executed. Marines are called in to lay down some bullet-rock on some nasty xenos. If I were to liken this game to a movie, it would be Aliens.

What Doom3 was missing, and what Quake4 was lacking If you havn't played Doom yet I would suggest trying it first before this game. I would recommend this game to any gamer looking for superb graphics and is a fan of FPS. From other review's I have seen on other site's, they have said that online in this game is nothing great but I will just have to find that out for myself! I have yet to play online with this game, but plan on doing so soon. In other games on these settings or lower I often g et occational stuttering, however, in Quake 4 I get none at all.

I have all setting's on high with 4x AA and achieve a constant frame rate of over 60 fps. This makes them pretty easy to kill and not much of a challenge as they are in Doom. Other than that you will find yourself shooting at enemies who just stand in one place or strafe to the left or right on occation. Only one enemy actually charges after me (and is very tough to kill!). I enjoy being surpised by enemies and being attacked by them while trapped in a corner. I must say, however, I enjoy playing Doom 3 over Quake 4. I love the games that ID puts out because the quality of them never dissapoints me. I am an owner of both Doom 3 and Quake 4.
